My approach
In my experience, people seek psychotherapy for a variety of reasons and I will work with you to explore whatever you bring to our sessions. You may be seeking therapy in response to a challenging situation or change – or you may be looking for some time and space for deeper reflection on your life.
You may want to explore your past, your life at present or your future – and how they may be connected.
Many people experience distress or unhappiness in their lives and I believe this is not usually a sign of a mental health problem. Together we explore the possible sources of this unease, how this is affecting you and whether you might choose to make changes.
Some of my clients work with me for several years, some for a few months or weeks and occasionally people come for a single session in order to clarify a specific issue in their life.
I have a particular interest in working with anxiety, bereavement, workplace stress and mid-life changes.
I have experience of working with therapists in training and supporting the personal learning process this entails.
In addition to working in private practice, I also work with voluntary and public sector organisations supporting personal and professional development programmes. I specialise in-group facilitation for conflict resolution, team-building, reflective practice and action learning.
Training, qualifications and experience
I’m an ‘integrative therapist’ – for me that reflects my curiosity about the human condition and the many different ways to make sense of this. I draw on a range of ideas in my work with clients, this is a response to what different people may need from therapy.
I have undertaken the following formal training in addition to many other professional development activities.
- MA Existential Psychotherapy & Counselling (NSPC)
- Certificate Therapeutic and Educational Application of the Arts (IATE)
- Certificate Person Centered Counselling
- CRUSE Bereavement Care Programme
- MA Management and Organisational Learning
I have experience of working as a counsellor with CRUSE and Kingston Bereavement Service and with an NHS neuro-rehabilitation service. I have also worked with the student counselling service at Portsmouth University. I have been working in private practice since 2009.
