My approach

I help clients to thrive as a person in leadership.

I work extensively with CEOs and executive leaders from a range of settings – corporate, charitable and public sector.

I specialise in working with leaders who are grappling with:

  • people dilemmas
  • culture
  • self-confidence and internal doubt
  • career change or retirement
  • team dilemmas
  • leadership style and approach

Executive leadership can be lonely. You’ll spend a lot of time making big decisions under pressure while trying to be swan-like on the outside.

You’ll smile for everyone else and give everyone the energy they need to be driven and inspired. But that means you often carry your people dilemmas, irks and internal worries alone.

You might carry with you a deep sense of self-doubt or perhaps a secret concern that you’re not good enough.

You might be frustrated with some of the board or executive team relationships around you and keep getting the same outcomes. Or perhaps certain team members make you want to run away, avoid or be less than you are.

There is a lot going on. You want to be your best and sometimes you just feel unlike you – or even a bit discombobulated.

(And, perhaps you’re also a mum or a dad, or going through menopause or just trying to be everything for everyone).

Why bother with coaching?

Coaching is a powerful place to be heard, acknowledged and to find space, new perspectives and clarity on the things that keep you awake at night.

There are coaches that work with the problems you bring. And then there are coaches, like me, who work with you as person. Together we create a completely confidential and safe space in which to explore your inner thoughts and find ways forward. Nothing is off the table – if it affects you, it’s welcome in your coaching space.

We’ll be working at depth. This means that you won’t always walk away with a list of actions or homework. But, over time, you will gain a greater understanding of:

  • who you are
  • your strengths and values
  • the beliefs that you’ve held about yourself that may not be true – and an awareness of how this affects your response to others and situations in the here and now

This awareness gives you choice and permission to turn off any negative beliefs in your head and get on with what you want to be doing and being.

Is it therapy then? Nope! While I have an in-depth understanding of psychology and psychotherapy, we won’t be sitting in your past. Instead, if you want to, we might just simply connect some dots as to why you have the beliefs you have and how that plays out in the here and now.

I use a range of leadership and psychological models to help you to frame and explore perspectives on the dilemmas you bring to sessions. As a trained transactional analytic and gestalt counsellor, many of the models and tools from these approaches can be useful in our work together.

The space will be challenging and we may have some ‘ouch’ and ‘ooff’ moments together because we’ll be getting to the heart of the matter. But it will also be supportive and empowering with bags full of care and empathy. I’m in your corner and walking with you.
